Student Stories
Real Students. Real Direction.
After working through the Career Uncertainty module's interactive tools, students walked away with more than a list of job titles — they came out with a clearer sense of who they are and where they're headed. Here's what a few of them had to say.
“
Before using these tools, I felt completely stuck about what career to choose. I had good grades and knew I wanted a stable career, to support a future family and do work that was useful, but I had no idea which direction actually suited me.
The Strength and Career Finder was the first thing that really clicked for me. I discovered that I was naturally analytical, practical and good at solving problems, but also valued reliability, responsibility and working towards something tangible. The Values Clarifier then helped me understand that family, integrity, stability, contribution and independence were genuinely important to me — not just things I thought I should value.
The Purpose Finder helped connect those values and strengths to possible careers, and suddenly I had some realistic directions to explore rather than a huge list of random options. The Decision Compass then helped me compare those options without constantly worrying that I was making the wrong choice.
Finally, Designing Your Life helped me see the bigger picture. Instead of asking "What's the perfect career?", I started asking "What kind of life do I want to build, and what career could support that life?"
I haven't got every detail of my future worked out, but I now have a direction that feels like me. For the first time, I'm making career decisions based on my strengths, values and the life I want — not pressure, comparison or guesswork.
“
I honestly thought I needed someone to tell me what career I should choose. I was looking at university courses, apprenticeships and different jobs, and every option seemed either exciting for five minutes or completely wrong. I kept changing my mind.
What surprised me was that the Strength and Career Finder didn't just give me a list of careers. It helped me understand how I actually operate — I'm creative, highly organised, good with people and I like taking an idea and turning it into something real.
The Values Clarifier was probably the biggest eye-opener. I realised I care much more about freedom, creativity, family and having a positive impact than I do about having an impressive job title. That changed the way I looked at my options.
Then the Purpose Finder helped me connect those things to actual career possibilities. Instead of asking "What job should I get?", I started asking "Where could I use these strengths in a way that matters to me?"
The Decision Compass helped me finally make a decision without needing 100% certainty. And Designing Your Life helped me see that choosing a direction doesn't mean locking myself into one future forever.
I still don't know exactly where I'll be in ten years — and I'm actually okay with that now. I have a direction, I understand myself much better, and I feel like I'm making my choices rather than letting my choices make me.
“
I was 19 and everyone kept asking me what I was going to do with my life. Honestly, I had no idea. I liked a lot of different things, but I wasn't really passionate about one particular career. I felt like everyone else had a plan and I was the only one who didn't.
The Strength and Career Finder helped me realise I didn't need to be passionate about one specific job. I found out that I'm naturally good at working with people, solving practical problems and staying calm when things get difficult. That gave me somewhere to start.
The Values Clarifier was useful because it made me think about what I actually want from life. I care about having good relationships, being independent, doing something useful and having enough freedom to enjoy life outside of work.
The Purpose Finder helped me connect those things to different career possibilities. Then the Decision Compass gave me a way to compare them instead of just going with whatever sounded good at the time.
The biggest change came from Designing Your Life. I stopped thinking that I had to figure out my entire future at 19. I just needed to choose a good direction, try things, learn from them and adjust.
I still don't have my whole life planned out — but I don't feel lost anymore.
