Identity Overload — Module MOD-W1 | You Want More

Identity Overload

Young women are often faced with competing expectations about who they should be, making it difficult to develop a clear and authentic sense of identity.

The Problem

You don't have to be everything to everyone

Young women today are navigating a world filled with competing messages about who they should be, how they should look, what they should achieve and what a successful life should involve.

Social media, family expectations, cultural influences, education, career opportunities and changing ideas about relationships can create an overwhelming number of possible identities to choose from. With so many voices telling them who they could or should become, it can be difficult to determine what genuinely reflects who they are.

How It's Delivered

Two ways to bring this to your students

Option 1

An Engaging Presentation

30 min + 10 min Q&A

Using engaging visuals, relatable examples and evidence-informed research, this presentation explores how identity develops and why a strong sense of self is important for confidence, wellbeing, decision-making and long-term fulfilment.

Students learn how external expectations can influence their choices and discover why authenticity does not mean ignoring other people's perspectives, but developing the confidence to decide which influences genuinely belong in their lives.

Students leave with a clearer understanding that identity is not something they have to discover perfectly at once — it is something they can consciously develop over time.

Option 2

Interactive Tutorial & Discussion

60–120 min

Students participate in an interactive workshop designed to help them explore who they are beneath the expectations placed upon them, examining the different influences that have shaped their identity.

Rather than telling students who they should be, the workshop gives them a structured process for developing their own sense of identity.

Students identify their core values, reflect on the person they are becoming, and explore how they can make future choices consistent with their authentic self rather than comparison or approval.

Interactive Learning Tools

Built into Option 2

Two purpose-built tools help students build identity from the inside out, not from outside expectations.

Identity Explorer

Students explore how their experiences, beliefs, relationships and personal stories have shaped their current identity — learning to distinguish between identities they've consciously chosen and expectations simply absorbed from others.

The Values Clarifier

Students identify the principles and priorities that genuinely matter to them, gaining a stronger internal compass for making decisions about relationships, education, career, lifestyle and the future.

Why These Tools?

Too many voices, not enough clarity

Identity overload is often created by having too many competing definitions of who we should be and not enough clarity about who we actually want to become. These two tools help students answer two essential questions:

Who am I becoming?

What truly matters to me?

"You don't have to be everything to everyone. You get to be you."

The Underlying Idea

Where the pressure comes from

Together, these tools provide students with a practical, evidence-informed framework for developing a stronger and more authentic sense of self. Rather than allowing social expectations, comparison or the opinions of others to define them, students learn to build their identity around their own values, experiences and aspirations.
