Delayed Adult Milestones

Later marriage, home ownership and parenthood can create tension between personal goals, career aspirations and biological realities.

The Problem

Your life. Your timeline. Your choices.

Young women are reaching traditional adult milestones later than previous generations.

Longer periods of education, career development, housing affordability, changing relationship patterns and greater personal choice can all influence when people marry, purchase a home or start a family. While delaying these milestones can provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional development, it can also create difficult questions about timing, priorities and how different life goals fit together.

How It's Delivered

Two ways to bring this to your students

Option 1

An Engaging Presentation

30 min + 10 min Q&A

Using engaging visuals, real-world examples and evidence-informed research, this presentation explores the changing pathway into adulthood and the trade-offs that can arise when important life goals are pursued at different stages.

Students consider career development, relationships, financial independence and family aspirations without being given a predetermined timeline or told that one pathway is right for everyone.

Students leave with a clearer understanding that there is no single timetable for adulthood, while learning the importance of thinking ahead and making intentional choices.

Option 2

Interactive Tutorial & Discussion

60–120 min

Students participate in an interactive workshop designed to help them think intentionally about the major areas of their future life, exploring how career, relationships, finances and family might fit together.

Rather than attempting to predict exactly what their future will look like, students explore several possible life pathways and consider the trade-offs associated with different choices.

They learn to distinguish between decisions that require early consideration and those that can remain flexible, developing a personal framework for informed decisions.

Interactive Learning Tools

Built into Option 2

Three purpose-built tools help students think ahead without being trapped by a rigid life timetable.

Designing Your Life

Students bring together their aspirations across career, relationships, family, finances, health and lifestyle to explore different possible futures and how the different parts of their lives can work together over time.

The Decision Compass

Students develop a practical framework for making important decisions about relationships, career, family and other major life choices — evaluated against their values and long-term priorities, not fear or pressure.

The Purpose Finder

Students explore the intersection between their strengths, interests, values and opportunities, considering how career choices can fit within the broader life they want to build.

Why These Tools?

Decisions don't happen in isolation

Delayed adult milestones can become difficult when students think about each decision in isolation rather than considering how different areas of life interact. These three tools help students answer three essential questions:

What kind of life do I want to intentionally build?

How do I make important decisions with greater clarity?

What kind of work will fit into the life I want?

"Your life. Your timeline. Your choices. Your future."

The Underlying Idea

The changing timeline

Together, these tools give students a practical, evidence-informed framework for thinking ahead without becoming trapped by a rigid life timetable — understanding their priorities, weighing timing and trade-offs, and making intentional decisions that keep long-term goals in view.
